Company provides use of equipment and labor of key employees to assist FoLAR in its annual LA River Clean-Up event on April 23, 2016

Los Angeles, CA, April 23, 2016: Local commercial recycling services and waste hauler American Reclamation, Inc. donated the volunteer labor of key management and sales employees along with the use of large open-top roll-off containers and pickup trucks to Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) to assist the latter non-profit organization in the clean-up and removal of over 30 tons of trash gathered by over 5000 volunteers from the mid-sections of the LA River. Three roll-off containers, with the holding capacity for 100 cubic yards of trash, were delivered to and later hauled away from FoLAR’s Frog Spot, a weekend educational and recreational gathering site next to the LA River. Volunteers deposited 1.07 tons of refuse removed from the river area adjacent to the Frog Spot into the company’s containers. At the same time American Reclamation employees used two pickup trucks to collect and remove bags of trash filled and deposited at the sides of the maintenance roads adjacent to the river by FoLAR volunteers who operated near the Arroyo Seco Confluence and Sunnynook Bridge areas of the LA River. American Reclamation employees have participated in FoLAR’s annual river clean up events for the past four years as individual volunteers.

American Reclamation provides various commercial waste and recyclable material collection services in the cities of Burbank, Commerce, El Monte, Glendale, Los Angeles, Montebello, Pasadena, and Vernon as well as unincorporated sections of Los Angeles County. In conjunction with its recycling division South Coast Fibers (a regional broker/dealer of recyclable material), American Reclamation has corporate offices and operates a buyback recycling center, E-waste collection site, and a large drop-off and material processing facility in the north Atwater Village area of the City of Los Angeles near the interchange of the 134 and 5 freeways and next to the Glendale Narrows section of the LA River on the company’s western boundary. The facility has been present in the Atwater Village area since 1958, and includes a public truck scale house, truck repair shop, along with various machinery and vehicles used for the recycling of construction and demolition waste, green waste, scrap metal, carpet, and certain scrap plastics where the material is sorted by type, baled or repackaged, containerized and shipped to paper mills and other overseas and domestic end users.

American Reclamation supports FoLAR and its efforts to revitalize the Los Angeles River under the company’s longstanding commitment to protect and benefit the environment in the communities that it services and its operating philosophy that by assisting in cleaning up the natural environment of Los Angeles River it also helps in maintaining the desirability of Atwater Village area for the community’s residents and businesses. As stated by Craig Doerr, American Reclamation’s Manager of Marketing & Sales, “When you clean up the LA river, you help keep the whole neighborhood clean.” Craig Doerr has been active in the fight against illegal dumping of trash on city streets, particularly at the end of the Doran Street cul de sac next to an entrance to the LA river and near the company’s processing and recycling center. The company also frequently has graffiti removed from the sides of its buildings and perimeter fence that face the river and is visible from Zoo Drive to minimize neighborhood blight.
